Retro Downfall
The Forge
The world’s first Inference IDE — a cross-platform Avalonia workbench forged atop Arcanum’s HTTP API.
The Forge is a complete development environment for AI inference workflows. Browse Campaigns and Spells, edit and cast, converse in Sessions, convene Apprentices, manage MCP servers, run Trials, watch Mana and spend — all through Arcanum’s routes. It is a pure API client: it never opens the Grimoire, never runs inference itself, and never duplicates Arcanum’s business logic. Every panel is a thin wrapper over an authenticated HTTP call. Fire up arcanum serve, then open The Forge and take The Anvil.
Author & converse
- The Atelier. Create and manage Campaigns, Workspaces, Spells, Prompts, and Sessions; import and export artifacts through Arcanum HTTP.
- The Workbench. Center tabs for the Spell editor, Tome, Scriptorium, Codex, Proving Grounds, Comparison, and markdown.
- The Mirror. Walk Spell versions — create, update, activate, and diff named version files.
- Spell metadata. Shape
SPELL.jsonvisually so capabilities travel with the Spell. - The Scriptorium. Versioned Prompts with render, test, and run streaming.
- The Tome. Multi-turn Sessions with live token streaming, attachments, optional memory controls, and a separate live role for client-safe reasoning (answers stay answer-only).
- The Illumination. Source · Split · Preview markdown for Spells, Codex, and notes.
- The Codex. Edit standing instructions without leaving the workbench.
Orchestrate & prove
- The War Table. Orchestrate Apprentices and follow their Chronicle as work unfolds.
- The Proving Grounds. Build ephemeral Trials against Spells, Prompts, or Apprentice goals; add Inquisitors (regex, JSON Schema, semantic); persist suites locally.
- Wards. When Forbidden Arts demand your hand, resolve allow or deny from the shell — status stays visible on The Anvil.
- The Arsenal. MCP server control, Diagnostic MCP, the Scrying Pool for tool invocation, and read-only Models & Providers.
- The Treasury. Read-only budget dashboard so Mana and spend stay in view.
Context, Weave & ops
- Lore & The Archive. Browse operator Lore and Saga long-term memory via Arcanum routes.
- Divination & Weave Inspector. Semantic search over The Weave; inspect index status, chunks, re-index, and embeddings reset.
- Workspace Explorer. Browse and gate workspace files through Arcanum, not local disk assumptions.
- Audit Browser. Review
/api/auditand guardrails audit with CSV/JSON export. - Files & Batches. OpenAI
/v1/filesand/v1/batchesfrom the IDE. - The Ledger. Desktop-local Git for workshop artifacts.
- The Hearth. Local shell at the bottom of the dock (not a PTY; not Arcanum HTTP).
- Compendium deep-link. Open Compendium from View, The Anvil, the setup wizard, or disabled-feature banners when
arcanum.jsonneeds your hand.
The workshop
The Forge is organized into a dockable shell: The Workbench at center, The Atelier to the left, tool windows to the right and below — War Table, Arsenal, Treasury, Hearth, and more — with The Anvil locked to the status bar (connection, Campaign, spend, Wards, Apprentices, MCP). Rearrange the layout; it persists in the-forge.json. Whispers toast short victories and failures; the Foundry Floor holds the detail.
